I originally titled this composition Salt, but then I heard about the uninspiring Angelina Jolie movie and I realized it rendered the Amoeba title bewildering to some viewers. I wanted to retain a “chemical” sense to the title and settled on Salts of Mercury. Subsequently, I found out Salts of Mercury was a real thing. Charlie Dickens called this piece “seventeen minutes of nightmare.” Now that I have spruced up the intro and exit, it is at least eighteen minutes, each moment more nightmarish than the last. I reckon this recording is thirty times heavier than any other recording ever made. Michael plays Chapman Stick, Jeff vocalizes, and Adam plays synthesizer allsorts. -- Jeff
